Still Waters

Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46 v.10). The still waters group is about meeting with God in the present moment and listening to the “still, small voice” of the Holy Spirit.

We live in a busy culture where there is a constant pressure to be achieving and on the move. Even church life can be full of activity and our prayer life can turn into a list of requests to God instead of just resting in his presence and seeking Him. It is important that our lives are balanced with times of stillness and being in God’s presence so that our activity comes out of our relationship with Him and is directed by his guidance. Jesus is our role model and he found time in his busy life to withdraw and to be alone with his Father in prayer.

The Still Waters group provides a place for contemplative prayer which is silent prayer. It is about stilling our mind to focus on God and resting in His presence without feeling the need to do or say anything. This can sometimes be difficult to do alone and so the Still Waters group provides a monthly time to come together to share in this form of prayer. During the meetings we have times of shared stillness and prayer and also have times to reflect and meditate on Bible passages or Christian writings using Lectio Divina which is a way of meditating on God’s word.

Still Waters is hosted by three Collier Row churches - The Good Shepherd, The Ascension and Chase Cross Baptist and is linked to Contemplative Fire. We meet on the fourth Sunday of the month, usually between 7.00-8.30pm and annually we meet at a local retreat house. There is a mailing list for those who are interested in attending and this also provides information about other related events and resources. Still Waters is a contemplative prayer group hosted by three Collier Row churches - The Good Shepherd, The Ascension and Chase Cross Baptist.
